Red-legged partridge driven hunt: guns and ammunition

Red-legged partridge driven hunt is one of the most typical small game hunting modalities in Spain, a practice in which El Crespo has more than 45 years of experience.

This kind of red-legged partridge hunt highlights the importance of the shot’s quality, so choosing the appropiate guns and ammunition becomes a key factor for success:

Recommended guns and ammunition for driven hunt

Double-barreled shotguns are the most commonly used guns in red-legged partridge driven hunt. The shorter the barrels, the lighter and easier to handle will be the gun. Thereby, the shot will be more accurate over a target that moves very quickly.

Also, a 12-caliber is the most appropiate, producing less recoil tan larger sizes.

Driven hunt: guns and ammunitionAs far as ammunition is concerned, there are some shot recommendations to be considered. 7-8 shot sizes would be the most recommended ones, choosing lead shot whenever possible, as it is superior ballistically and hits harder and penetrates deeper than steel shot.

If we are going to practice hunting assiduously, it is best to use the same batch of ammunition throughout the whole hunting season, in order to avoid uneven shot results due to possible component changes.
